2nd Annual BMPA International Short Film Competition Announces Winners

After a five-month, three-round judging process, the Boston Motion Picture Awards has declared Australias Beth Armstrong the winner of this years BMPA International Short Film Competition. Ms. Armstrongs short film Danya (produced by Luke Eve) explores the relationship between an eight-year-old girl (Danya) and her father (Patrick) after the death of Danyas mother. While Patrick responds by locking his late wifes belongings in her old sewing room, Danya responds by exploring the meaning of death.


Beth Armstrong has directed several films, including Danya; Tackle; the documentary Passion with a Pedigree (AFTRS), and a short feature entitled Cheek to Cheek, which was produced in association with Australias Film Commission. Her 1st place win in the BMPA International Short Film Competition has earned her over $ 1,000 USD toward her next production; a free copy of Final Draft screenwriting software; a web page dedicated to her film on the BMPA web site; a free subscription to Macworld Magazine; a free copy of Getting Loaded, the personal finance guide by noted author and financial speaker Peter Bielagus; a personalized trophy, and a personalized awards certificate.


Finishing in 2nd place this year is Whats Love Doing in the Mountains? (a Turkish/American production) written and directed by student filmmaker Yunus E. Firat, and produced by Matthew Quezada. Finishing in 3rd Place is the U.S. documentary Do You Want the Elephant Music, written and directed by Leslie Dektor, and produced by Faith Dektor. The BMPA International Short Film Competition was founded in 2004 by Boston-area filmmakers Aaron and Seth Howland of 7 Fluid Oz. Productions LLP (http://www.7fluidoz.com). Aaron and Seths credits include the short film The Albino Code (2006); the feature film Interrogation (2006), and the documentary/live concert DVD On the Way (2004). This years judges included award-winning actor/filmmaker Sayed Badreya (The Insider, True Lies, T for Terrorist); award-winning filmmaker Hari Das (The Photo, An Angel in the Office), and Boston-area filmmaker Lynn Weissman (SUV, Mon Amour: An American Love Story).

10th Annual WebAward Competition for Web Site Development Deadline for Entry Extended

The Web Marketing Association has announced that the deadline for entering its 10th annual WebAward Competition (http://www.webawards2006.org) has been extended until June 15th to allow final entries to be submitted and existing entries to be edited if needed. The WebAwards are the Internets premier award competition that judges website development against an ever increasing Internet standard of excellence and against peer sites within an industry.

Web sites are judged on design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, navigation and ease of use. Each WebAward entry is judged against other entries in its industry category and then against an overall standard of excellence. A Best of Industry WebAward, a handsome plaque with the image of the winning site embossed, will be given in each of the 96 industry categories, including financial services, medical, small business, travel, advertising, transportation, and government. New categories for this year include Healthcare Providers, Medical Equipment, Fashion and Technology.


The competitions highest honor, the 2006 WebAward Best of Show, will be given to the one site that the judges believe represents the pinnacle of outstanding achievement in Web development. Last years Best of Show winner was based IQ interactive (http://www.iqtv.com), for their outstanding work on "National Geographic Inside The Mafia" at URL http://www.insidethemafia.com.


The Web Marketing Association will also recognize the interactive agency winning the most awards in the competition with the Top Interactive Agency WebAward. The 2005 Top Agency award was presented Zugara (http://www.zugara.com), taking home 20 awards, more that any other organization in the history of the competition.
